CHAIRMAN’S REPORT 47th AGM MARCH 2017
As we enter a year of uncertainty as to how and where our local health services will be delivered, the League remains positive and we will continue in the manner we are known for. The community continue to support us and the stories we hear of the exceptional care and kindness given to the patients is the main reason for this. Sincere thanks to all the nursing and support staff who again contributed to League funds with the proceeds of their strawberry tea in June.
We have again supported all appropriate requests for comforts and equipment for our staff, inpatients and community services, and have funded essential replacement and additional equipment for both Stratton & Neetside Medical Centres.
One interesting request was an ipad for the Minor Injuries Unit treatment room to be used as a distraction tool for children needing and resisting treatment. This has successfully enabled staff to administer eye and ear drops and perform other uncomfortable treatments to children visiting the M.I.U.
The remedial work on the water system has still not been completed resulting in an ongoing lack of cold water supply in Outpatients and no hot drink availability from our vending machine or cold water from the water machine in the waiting room. Estates do not appear to have responded to requests from our Modern Matron over several months to rectify this.
Our frustration continues over the under use of the 4 bedded Ward which has never opened fully since the re-build.
My thanks to the Trustees, members and volunteers for their loyalty and support throughout the year, too many to individually mention but nonetheless I do really appreciate what a fine group of Friends we have.
